Covenant Reliance Producers had a huge problem. Their current web application, on the Wordpress platform, was monstrous with tons of page content, videos, training materials, users, and production data. It was in bad shape though with a lot of poorly written code and a front end design that left something to be desired. They not only needed a 'consumer' facing web portal, but they also had a much larger back end interface that served as an intranet for their producers. The gauntlet had been thrown.
This project was a pretty major undertaking, and I was under a bit of a time crunch to make matters worse. My team and I took the excellent design done by Brianna Reed and built out the application. The base content management system was built out in Joomla. I made heavy use of Joomla's standard user access control features to hide and reveal menu items based on logged user authentication. We also heavily leveraged K2, an enhanced content delivery component. This allowed us to create highly customized views and fields for the production data. We also were able to heavily modify K2's user profile system to display production data for the month, year, and goals. There was also a calendar and social feed that needed to be built out. These tasks were completed by customizing a couple of popular Joomla components. The result was a highly functional website with a web application hidden inside of it. Completion of this project meant drinks for everyone.
