Gallery One was acquired by a new owner, and the current site was in need of some serious help. The design was very outdated, and I heard the usual story regarding a previous web company that was difficult to get in touch with and extremely slow when it came to web edits. The new owner wanted to have ongoing events at the gallery, and there were 20-30 artists with hundreds of art pieces that needed to be easily managed.
We wanted to make sure the the site had a nice visual appeal because it was an art gallery after all. Brianna Reed came up with a really nice design that my team and I took over. We decided to use ExpressionEngine on this project due to it's uncanny ability to manage all sorts of flexible content. The primary channels of content I set up were for artwork, artists, and events. I created a reverse relationship between artists and artwork so that the different pieces of art assigned to an artist would loop through on the artist's page. I also implemented a slick jQuery calendar plugin that dynamically pulled in events from the entries that could easily be managed within ExpressionEngine.
